Regional Competition Director:
Alan Moore, Tiretown Corvette Club
Member of National Council since 1968.
Served as president, VP, social, treasurer, many times throughout the years. Governor for Tiretown for many years. Again the age thing! I've been an active competitor for over 20 years, first with my 67, then 65, then the 80, and in recent years the '93. Gail & I have lived our lives around Corvetting since we first met at a car show at the mall she was marketing 22 years ago. Having served as your RCD for the past (almost four years) I am once again asking for your support.
During my tenure I instigated the following programs:
v Workers awards to honor those individuals who went "above and beyond" not necessarily by competing, but by being active in the region in a capacity so badly needed.
v "Team 200" as apposed to just giving silver awards to anyone who received 200 points in the region. Team 200 was established to recognize those individuals within the region who reached this mark, without labeling them as "28th place", etc. In doing so, I also established the practice of awarding the top five finishers with jackets, and the other "Team 200" members with garments that they could wear proudly part of an exclusive "club" for outstanding participants. In addition, I started a tradition of allowing "Team 200" members to also choose between a garment or a plaque or both if they so chose, at their expense. Wish we didn't have to "charge" members, but because of budgetary constraints placed on the RCD, this is necessary.
v A spreadsheet accounting of points earned in the region. By putting points in an Excel format, each competitor in the East Ohio Region can easily track their points by reviewing the spreadsheet - something not available until now. By labeling each column with the type of event and the sanction number, any serious competitor can easily see where they stand, if any mistakes are suspected, and then communicate with me any discrepancies.
I have been attending national meetings for 20+ years, and during that time have not missed more than two or three. Sometimes it was because we were working on a convention, or I was a governor, or Gail was a national officer, etc. or sometimes just as an interested individual wanting to keep up with what is happening in NCCC.
I have an in-depth knowledge of the NCCC Rulebook. I served on the committee to publish the year 2000 Rulebook. I'm not necessarily in favor of everything in the Rulebook, but you must keep in mind that it was written as a committee, and every vote counts. I've tried my best to represent East Ohio and the desires of its members.
Though at times my decisions have been controversial, I honestly tried to uphold the NCCC Rulebook.
In addition, as RCD I've attended probably 75% of the events in the region, even when not entering, because I feel it is the responsibility of ANY regional officer to be visible and accessible.
I still have a lot of goals I would like to pursue. One of the most important is to remind our members that this is a volunteer organization - dedicated to ENJOYING (and having fun) with the sport of Corvetting.
Two years ago, I decided to not run for governor for Tiretown because I felt very strongly that a regional officer cannot effectively do their job if they are also trying to represent their club. And I still believe that.
I would like to work with clubs in our region to make good events GREAT events!
I would like to see an end to controversy. Each club has its strengths and weaknesses. And we should respect that. Let's not do any club bashing. Let's enjoy the competition and the friendships we can make.
